What’s Happening?

New OEMs are a hot topic in NASCAR right now. With rumors of Dodge’s impending return to the sport, fans are now looking for clues as to what other OEMs may enter. A new rumor, however, suggests that an unlikely source is attempting to lure a top brand into the sport.

What’s the Rumor?

This rumor states that RFK Racing co-owner Brad Keselowski is playing a role in attempting to bring Honda to NASCAR. However, the poster, nascarrumornostalgia, stated that they don’t expect RFK Racing to leave Ford and that it “Sounds like BK was looking at other avenues to get Honda support in.”

This account has a solid track record of rumors and insights, some accurate and some inaccurate. This track record has grown this account’s popularity in the NASCAR online community.

This post is vague about what these “other avenues” could be. Regardless, when nascarrumornostalgia posted this on Instagram, it quickly gained traction throughout the online NASCAR community. While the name drop of Keselowski is low stakes (unless RFK makes a shocking switch from Ford), the implication that industry members loyal to other OEMs want Honda in the sport is interesting.

For some time now, Honda has been NASCAR’s ‘white whale.’ As speculation grows that the Japanese automaker could leave IndyCar after 2026, rumors about Honda’s NASCAR future seem to be picking up.

NASCAR’s OEM Hunt

Since Dodge left following the 2012 season, NASCAR has been mostly upfront with fans and industry members about their hopes of finding a new OEM. Despite this vocality, fans have begun to shrug off any comment NASCAR has made as a source of false hope.

However, the last few months have been full of rumors that a new OEM or OEM is on the way. On Nov. 18, NASCAR President Steve Phelps said that NASCAR was speaking with several OEMs and that one was “close” to joining.

Most expected it to be Honda. However, there was little word about a new OEM until Feb. 10, when Phelps told Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, “I know that’s an answer I’ve given repeatedly over the last five years, but they’re facts. There’s no BS in the comment I just made.”

Following this Feb. 10 report, Catchfence.com reported right before the Daytona 500 that Stellantis brands Ram and Dodge were pursuing readmission to NASCAR’s National Series. Ram is attempting to join the Truck Series as early as 2026, and Dodge has Cup Series ambitions that some suggest could see them back as soon as 2027.

However, this does not mean that Honda is off the board just yet; as referenced by nascarrumornostalgia, Adam Stern reported on Feb. 25, “Honda remains the other car brand that industry execs are watching for at the moment to see if it finds a way into NASCAR.”

Though it is low stakes, this new rumor suggests that not just NASCAR but those directly involved in the industry want Honda to make the jump to stock car racing.

Chris Gabehart Responds to JGR’s Lawsuit

What’s Happening?

Chris Gabehart has responded to Joe Gibbs Racing’s lawsuit, strongly denying the allegations and calling the claims “false,” “frivolous,” and “retaliatory” in a public statement released this Friday.

After the lawsuit became public, on Thursday, Gabehart spoke out for the first time, stating that he did not share any confidential JGR information with Spire Motorsports or any third parties and that he intends to prove that in court. He also said a third-party forensic review of his personal devices found no evidence supporting the accusations, adding that JGR declined an offer to examine Spire’s systems before filing suit.

“Yesterday afternoon, Joe Gibbs Racing filed a lawsuit claiming — falsely — that I shared JGR confidential information with Spire Motorsports and/or other unnamed third parties… I feel compelled to speak out today and forcefully and emphatically deny these frivolous and retaliatory claims.”

Gabehart said he will address the matter further in a formal legal response in the coming days.

What Happens if it Rains at Atlanta This Weekend?

What’s Happening?

Weather could play a major role in the NASCAR weekend at EchoPark Speedway, with current forecasts calling for a 40% chance of rain Saturday afternoon and increasing to 55% in the evening. While conditions are expected to improve, contingency plans are already in place in case races cannot be completed as scheduled

If Saturday Goes as Planned
  • All scheduled events run normally across the NASCAR Truck Series, O’Reilly Series, and Cup Series
  • No changes to Sunday’s schedule
If One Saturday Race Is Postponed
  • The delayed race would move to Sunday morning
  • It would run before the Cup Series race
  • Other races remain in their original slots
If Both Saturday Races Are Postponed
  • Sunday becomes a tripleheader, with the expected running order being: 1. O’Reilly Series, 2. Cup Series, 3. Truck Series
  • Schedule subject to change depending on conditions

NASCAR has not announced any official schedule changes yet, as decisions will be based on how conditions develop in real time. With rain chances increasing through Saturday afternoon and evening, teams are preparing for multiple outcomes, and Sunday is expected to serve as the primary backup window if events can’t be completed as planned.

Conditions are constantly being monitored, but fans should be prepared for possible schedule adjustments throughout the weekend. We’ll keep you updated throughout the race weekend here on The Daily Downforce
