What’s Happening?

Legacy Motor Club has been granted a preliminary injunction to pause the sale of Rick Ware Racing and its charters to businessman and former Spire Motorsports co-founder T.J. Puchyr for the time being.

LMC motioned for this injunction on July 25. Shortly after that, the teams were granted a temporary restraining order, pausing the sale for 10 days. Per the new injunction, the sale to Puchyr is on hold until litigation in the two teams’ initial April 1 lawsuit is concluded.

After some litigation between the two teams earlier this year, Puchyr, then a third party in the matter, shockingly announced that he was buying RWR in its entirety on June 26. LMC sued Puchyr for tortious interference of contract on July 16. Puchyr brokered the charter deal that went sour between LMC and RWR and resulted in LMC’s Apr. 1 lawsuit.

The initial lawsuit between the two stems from a record-breaking $45 million charter sale, in which LMC claims RWR was going to sell them a charter for the 2026 season. There is also confusion on which charter this would be due to ongoing lease agreements between RFK Racing and RWR.

On Apr. 30, RWR claimed in court that this was not the case, as the only charter they would have to sell for 2026 would be Charter 27, currently used by RFK and the one RWR plans to use for 2026. Their current charter used for their No. 51 entry is Charter 36, the one they claim they intended to sell to LMC for the 2027 season after RFK leased it for the 2026 season.

Currently, LMC’s search for a third charter is one of the most important storylines of 2026 Silly Season. The two-car, two-Charter team is also a part of rumors that they could merge or buy the Haas Factory team to get this charter. The trial between LMC and RWR is scheduled for January.
