What’s Happening?

NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Austin Hill will continue driving Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 this weekend following the recent passing of Kyle Busch.

  • Initially, fans questioned whether Hill would be the week-to-week driver of the car after Busch’s sudden passing. This is the plan as of now: at Michigan International Speedway, Hill will drive the car for the third straight weekend.
  • Hill took over driving duties of the car prior to Busch’s passing and maintained his spot this past weekend at Nashville Superspeedway. In his two starts, the 32-year-old Georgia native has finished 27th at both Charlotte and Nashville.
  • Of course, the No. 33 was originally the No. 8 prior to Busch’s death. But afterward, RCR opted to temporarily retire the No. 8, holding it for Busch’s son, Brexton, should he make the NASCAR Cup Series.
  • While Hill will have the wheel again this weekend, fans continue to ask questions about RCR’s top prospect Jesse Love, given his rumored interest in racing in the Cup Series next season. As of press time, any plans for Love to drive the No. 33 this year have yet to be announced.
