It wasn’t long ago when NASCAR used to bring in drivers who specialize in road courses called road course Ringers. Now it seems like everyone in the Cup Series is so good that everyone can be considered a Ringer, so it’s hard to figure out who is the best. Today, Eric Estepp on Out Of The Groove will be ranking NASCAR’s best road course racers.
- Alex Bowman won this year at the Chicago Street course, so he’s clearly a good road course racer. However, given his performance throughout his career on road courses, it’s hard to say that he’s one of the best. Do you agree with his position on the Estepp ladder?
- AJ Allmendinger could be considered a road course ringer even by today’s standards, especially when he’s in a car that could perform well. The problem is he’s rarely in a car that’s in a position to get him a win. How do you think he will perform in Watkins Glen?
- SVG has his position in NASCAR basically because of how good he is solely on road horses. However, he has struggled to find victory lane this year, so he doesn’t make the top spot. Who do you think is in the top spot?
Who would you consider the best world course racer in NASCAR? How essential is it to be good at road courses? Let Eric know all of your thoughts and questions in the comment section.
