What’s Happening?

YouTube star turned ARCA Menards Series driver Garrett Mitchell, better known by his screen name Cleetus McFarland, plans to race in five ARCA races throughout the 2025 season, the driver confirmed.

Mitchell made his debut in the series last season, and, following his final race at Bristol, hinted he would return on a part-time basis for this season.

This week somewhat confirmed his plans to at least race in the ARCA race at Daytona this year, with Mitchell entered in a preseason ARCA test at the famed track. Still, the 30-year-old expanded on his 2026 racing plans during a Friday Morning interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Mitchell claims he will “probably” race in five races, though it seems his only guaranteed races as of press time are the ARCA Menards Series events at Daytona (February 14 on FOX) and Talladega (April 25 on FS1), two tracks which he competed at in 2025.

The Nebraska native made his debut at Daytona last season as a surprise entrant in preseason testing, later uploading a YouTube video explaining his goals of racing in the Daytona 500 someday, and showing how his friend, NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, helped get him to Daytona.

The past few weeks have been challenging for Mitchell following the death of Biffle and six others in a plane crash in Stateville, North Carolina. Many fans found out about Biffle’s passing through a Facebook post from Mitchell, whom Biffle alongside his family, was flying down to visit in Florida.

In the wake of Biffle’s passing, Mitchell honored “The Biff” with a lengthy YouTube video and a reflection on their friendship.

Per Mitchell, the tributes to his friend will extend into the racing season. During Friday’s preseason test, his Rette Jones Racing No. 30 carried the phrase “Be Like Biff” on its rear bumper.

Furthermore, Mitchell says, despite the passing of his dear friend, he will push forward with their goal of racing in the Daytona 500.

“I’m carrying our mission of getting the Daytona 500. That’s what we started with all this stuff, so I got to finish it.” — Garrett Mitchell

Though he could likely hop behind the wheel of a Cup Series car in this year’s 500, being a high-profile name with sponsorship, Mitchell has consistently repeated that he wants to work his way to that level, sometimes calling out drivers who prematurely make the jump.

Even though he is not racing full-time, another season of part-time ARCA racing will definitely help Mitchell get there.

Last year’s four-race schedule was full of ups and downs for Mitchell, which included crashing out of the ARCA race at Daytona, followed by back-to-back top-ten finishes at Talladega and Charlotte, before a lackluster finish to round out the season at Bristol.

Despite his slow approach, fans wonder when he will take that next step on the NASCAR ladder to the Craftsman Truck Series.
