What’s Happening?

As laps were winding down and we started to get to the wire, the big one broke out with just over 20 laps to go. William Sawalich was running 8th at the time in the outside lane as the RCR duo of Jesse Love and Austin Hill set the pace. As Corey Day entered the turn a half of a lane lower than Sawalich, the air sucked him around. Many heavy hitters were involved in the incident, including Taylor Day and Jeb Burton. Masterfully navigating his way through the carnage was Rajah Caruth, who only received a little bit of nose damage.

  • Corey Day is embarking on his first full-time season in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, driving the No.17 HendrickCars.com Chevy for HMS. He’s been modest in his starts so far but his mentor, Kyle Larson believes he might be the next big thing.
  • This was the second major incident for Burton tonight as he was involved in the earlier wreck involving Sam Mayer and Natalie Decker.
  • Sawalich showed some major improvement late in the year last year, going from being the weaker link at JGR to being closer to par with his teammates. This is a tough start of the season for him.
