What’s Happening?
The checkered flag is out for one of the wildest NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races we’ve seen in quite a while. This race had everything–big crashes, drama, a dominating driver, devastating mistakes, and a winning strategy. If you watched just the first two stages of this race, you might have thought that it was a foregone conclusion that Brandon Jones was going to win. He led 61 of the first 90 laps of the race and swept both the stages. And just when we thought it was about to slip away with a poor restart at the beginning of the final stage, one that saw Sheldon Creed rocket out front, as the teams closed in on a cycle of green flag pit stops, Brandon Jones was reeling in Creed again. He had the fastest car on the track and, after pit stops, the two drag raced off pit road.
However, a costly mistake, an uncontrolled tire, by Brandon Jones and his crew, cost him this race. He was forced to serve a pass-through penalty in the final run, taking him out of contention. The winning move? Jones’ teammate, Taylor Gray, pitted a couple of laps before the 20 and 00 and inherited the race lead after Jones’ issues. Gray went on to win the race, scoring his second career victory. But it didn’t come easy. On three laps older tires, Sheldon Creed and Justin Allgaier ran down the 54 of Gray. But, in the end, it wasn’t enough. Gray wins!

Post-Race Report
- The race started with a scary incident on Lap 2, which saw the polesitter, Carson Kvapil, get loose and sideways. As he made contact with the outside wall, a pocket of air lifted him off the ground and he barrel rolled down the back stretch. NASCAR threw the red flag as AMR Safety Crews rushed to the scary scene of the accident. Fortunately, they were able to flip the car back over, and Kvapil was able to climb out under his own power and miraculously walk away. Subsequently, he was checked and released from the in-field care center.
- Brandon Jones swept the opening two stages, leading 61 of the first 90 laps of the race. Also showing speed early were the youngsters Brent Crews and Corey Day, the latter of whom led 23 laps early. But it was the veteran of Jones showing how to get it done in the first half of tonight’s race. Jones, the defending winner of the race, swept the stages for only the second time in his career, the last time dating all the way back to 2020.
- Earning stage points in tonight’s event were: Brandon Jones (20), Justin Allgaier (16), Corey Day (14), Jesse Love (14), Sheldon Creed (13), Taylor Gray (9), Anthony Alfredo (6), Sammy Smith (6), Brent Crews (3), Harrison Burton (3), Jeb Burton (2), and Sam Mayer (2).
- Other incidents of note were that the RCR teammates of Jesse Love and Austin Hill got together on Lap 37, which saw Hill spin into the infield grass. Sammy Smith and Corey Day were also involved in an incident to start Stage 3. This wreck also collected Ryan Sieg. All three drivers managed to keep their cars off the wall and were able to continue.
- Tonight was the second Dash 4 Cash race of the year for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series drivers. In contention tonight were Sheldon Creed, Carson Kvapil, Justin Allgaier, and Brent Crews. Kvapil fell out early after a scary flip on Lap 2. For a bulk of the race, Creed, Allgaier, and Crews were in the thick of it. In the end, though, it was Sheldon Creed with his 2nd place finish who will be taking home the $100,000.
- Taylor Gray took advantage of his teammate Brandon Jones’ mistake to capitalize and score his second career O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory. This is a monumental win, considering Gray rough start to his 2026 campaign.
- Sheldon Creed clocked the Xfinity Fastest Lap. Therefore, he earns 1 additional bonus point to add to his race total.
