What’s Happening?
All three NASCAR National Series head to Texas Motor Speedway for the first triple-header mile-and-a-half race weekend in over a month. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of this weekend.
- Texas Motor Speedway is a colossal 1.5-mile speedway owned by Speedway Motorsports. The track, which sits just north of Fort Worth, Texas, held its first race in 1997 to a massive overflowing crowd of fans ready for the first NASCAR Cup Series race in Texas since 1981.
- Though the track technically opened in 1996, TMS first hosted the NASCAR Cup Series in 1997. That year, it also hosted the NASCAR Truck and Xfinity Series, making it one of the longest-running tracks to host a triple-header weekend.
- Texas is tricky; for some drivers, one wrong move could make the difference between holding the lead and slamming your car into the outside wall.

Top Storylines of the Weekend
- This is the first mile-and-a-half NASCAR race since Homestead Miami Speedway in late March. Texas Motor Speedway, while not a fan favorite like Homestead, will likely be more competitive than the past few races at short tracks and more predictable than last weekend at Talladega. Look for big names with fast qualifying speeds to run up front all weekend long.
- The two series regulars who won the triple-header weekend at Texas last season were Sam Mayer in the Xfinity Series and Chase Elliott in the Cup Series. Both drivers have yet to win this season. While Mayer went on to win twice more in 2024, Elliott has not won a race since. Will these two drivers get their first wins of the season this weekend, or will Elliott take his winless streak beyond the 36-race mark?
- Texas Motor Speedway is perhaps the most treacherous track in NASCAR. Last season, the NASCAR Cup Series race had 16 cautions for 72 laps. Furthermore, a late spin cost Denny Hamlin, primed for another win, to wreck in turn four during a late restart. While the action may not be the best, this track can reach out and end the day for almost any driver, no matter their position in the running order.
