What’s Happening?
NASCAR heads from the desert in Phoenix to the desert in Las Vegas for the last race of NASCAR’s West Coast swing. This weekend will be the first triple header since Atlanta, and all three series are eager to see who’s fast on an intermediate track.
- Las Vegas Motor Speedway opened in 1996 as part of a larger West Coast expansion for NASCAR. During its early years, Ford dominated the Cup Series races in Las Vegas; however, in recent years, Chevrolet has found its groove. Both OEMs won at the track in 2024.
- NASCAR has raced in Las Vegas since 1996. However, in a rather untraditional manner, the Truck Series raced at the track first, then the Xfinity Series in 1997, and finally, the NASCAR Cup Series raced at Las Vegas for the first time in 1998.
- This season, NASCAR has seen an interesting start to the schedule; two drafting tracks, a road course, and a short track have resulted in the Series waiting until the fifth race of the season to race on its first intermediate track.

Top Storylines of the Weekend
- This weekend will be the first time NASCAR will race on a true intermediate oval this season. Ovals like Las Vegas make up a large portion of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, and this is the first chance fans will have to see who has speed on these tracks this season.
- Christopher Bell has a chance to do something that no NASCAR Cup Series driver has done in over 15 years. Bell currently has three wins in a row, and if he wins in Las Vegas, he will be the first driver since Jimmie Johnson in 2007 to win four races in a row. Historically, Bell has faced an uphill climb as he has a 17.4 average finish through ten races in Las Vegas.
- The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to action for the first time in over two weeks. Currently, the only full-time Truck Series driver to win a race this season is Corey Heim, as Kyle Busch walked away victorious in Atlanta. Grant Enfinger enters this weekend as the current points leader, just one point ahead of reigning champion Ty Majeski.
