What’s Happening?
All three NASCAR National Series will host a street-style race at Naval Base Coronado, just outside of San Diego, during Father’s Day weekend 2026.

NASCAR confirmed the long-rumored addition to its calendar via a video posted to social media. The video was heavily themed around the race’s location at Naval Base Coronado, a major base on the West Coast.
According to reports, the event is, at least for now, a one-year deal between NASCAR and the City.
The video featured stars of the NASCAR Cup Series flying in fighter jets and racing around the naval base on a circuit that NASCAR EVP and Chief Venue & Racing Innovation Officer Ben Kennedy has confirmed is not the official layout for the race.
The 2026 San Diego Street Race will replace the Chicago Street Race as the only street circuit on the calendar. However, it will not take over the 4th of July weekend, with NASCAR opting for Father’s Day weekend, Jun. 19-21, 2026. This season, the closest race weekend to this date was at Pocono Raceway on Jun. 20-22, and much like this race date San Diego will be the final race broadcast on Prime Video in 2026.
While NASCAR will try to maintain its foothold in the Chicago market, the addition of this race gives NASCAR a way back into the Southern California market. The sport has not held a points race in So Cal since the final race at the now semi-demolished Auto Club Speedway, and has not held a race in the market since the 2024 Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Furthermore, unlike the street race in Chicago, the race will feature all three NASCAR National Series. During NASCAR’s time in Chicago, the Xfinity and Cup Series were the only two series participating.
Notably, in 2025, Father’s Day race weekend was Jun. 13-15, the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, Mexico.
There are rumors that Mexico City could be off the table for 2026. Still, for now, despite early speculation and rumors that Chicagoland could be the direct replacement for the Chicago Street Race, it does not appear that this race will take the place of Mexico City.
