What’s Happening?
This weekend, all three NASCAR National Series are on track in two different parts of the country for two very different styles of racing. Here’s everything you need to know about this weekend’s races at Lime Rock Park and EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta.
- EchoPark Speedway, formerly known as Atlanta Motor Speedway, is an intermediate oval that, thanks to a 2022 re-configuration, races like a superspeedway. The Truck Series is racing at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT, a 1.478-mile road course that opened in 1957.
- Though the Truck Series has never raced at Lime Rock, the track hosted the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East from 1993 to 2010. The NASCAR Xfinity Series first raced at EchoPark Speedway in 1992, and the Cup Series in 1960.
- This is the first race at Lime Rock Park. The track, which is iconic to the northeast, will serve as a proving ground for young drivers on road courses. Its addition boosts the series’ road course races to three from one in 2024.

Top Storylines of the Weekend
- This weekend, TNT Sports takes over exclusive NASCAR Cup Series coverage on TNT and HBO Max, while practice and qualifying move to TruTV and HBO Max for the rest of the season, including NBC Sports’ coverage, which kicks off on Aug. 3 at Iowa Speedway. This is the first time that TNT will have NASCAR Coverage since 2014, which, at the time, ended a 14-season run of NASCAR Cup Series coverage on the network.
- This race is also the first race of NASCAR‘s new in-season tournament. This tournament, dubbed the In-Season Challenge, will pit each driver one-on-one during five races in TNT‘s portion of the schedule. The final race will be at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with two drivers facing off during the Brickyard 400 for $1 million. Following the final three NASCAR races on Prime Video, the finishing spots of the current top 32 drivers were collected to decide on seeding for this tournament.
- It’s no secret that EchoPark Speedway, formerly known as Atlanta Motor Speedway, may be the most volatile track on the NASCAR schedule. As an intermediate with superspeedway racing, this race serves as one of the last two chances for superspeedway drivers to lock themselves into the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. After Atlanta, these underdogs will only have one more chance, the cutoff race at Daytona International Speedway.
