What’s Happening?
It’s finally NASCAR’s Throwback Weekend as the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series head to Darlington Raceway for South Carolina’s first race of the 2025 season.
- Darlington is a long-time staple of the NASCAR National Series, with the track’s first race taking place in 1950 when Johnny Mantz brought home his Plymouth a winner. The track is unlike any other, with its iconic high banks and egg shape; Darlington is a true blast from the past.
- Since its 1950 opening, Darlington has hosted the NASCAR Cup Series at least once a year. The Xfinity Series, however, did not race at the track until 1982, and the series has hosted at least one race a year since.
- With its historic status, NASCAR gave the track the honor of hosting its annual throwback weekend. This race weekend celebrates NASCAR history, featuring modern takes on classic paint schemes, retro styles of modern paint schemes, and tributes to NASCAR legends.

Top Storylines of the Weekend
- We have reached the portion of the season in which fans begin to question whether or not the Fords have the speed to catch the other OEMs. Ford has just one win in the three NASCAR National series this season, and while they always seem to rebound, Darlington, a track that they swept in the 2024 Cup Series season, is a great place to start.
- Brad Keselowski was one of those two Ford drivers who walked away with a win at Darlington. This was a streak breaker for Keselowski, and while it looked like the tide was turning for the veteran and his RFK Fords, Brad is off to one of his worst career starts ever in 2025. Perhaps another rebound is in store for Kes at Darlington, just like last season.
- One of the best parts of Keselowski’s wins last season was his Castrol throwback paint scheme inspired by the 1997 Castrol TOMs Supra. This year, the Xfinity Series is the track with the heavy hitters in the throwback market, such as Brennan Poole’s 2001 Jeff Gordon Looney Tunes Dupont Chromalusion Throwback. But the Cup Series is no slouch this year, with great throwbacks like Kyle Larson’s scheme inspired by Terry Labonte’s 2003 Southern 500 win.
