What’s Happening?
This weekend, the three NASCAR National Series will crown each of their champions. After 272 days, a season that has seen records broken and legacies secured will come to an end, with three drivers front and center.
- Phoenix Raceway is NASCAR’s only short track in the southwest. Since its opening in 1964, the one-mile track has hosted the majority of major American oval racing series, including IndyCar, CART, and NASCAR’s three National Series.
- The NASCAR Cup Series first raced at the track in 1988 and has continued to do so ever since. The Truck Series followed up, making its Phoenix debut and its series debut in 1995. The Xfinity Series would be the final national Series to debut at the track, not doing so until the 1999 season.
- This weekend is the final championship race at Phoenix Raceway for the foreseeable future. Next year, the event moves to Homestead Miami Speedway, and pending NASCAR’s final decision on a new playoff format, Phoenix will maintain a fall/playoff race.

Top Storylines of the Weekend
- The four drivers competing for the Craftsman Truck Series Championship this weekend have all had noteworthy seasons. Tyler Ankrum has had a career season, winning his first race since 2019. Ty Majeski has had a down year, but he has a chance to go back-to-back. Kaden Honeycutt has raced for two OEMs and three different teams in pursuit of his championship. Finally, Corey Heim is having perhaps the greatest Craftsman Truck Series season of all time, breaking records en route to his Championship Four appearance.
- All four cars in the Xfinity Series championship four carry the Chevrolet banner. Jesse Love started the year off with a win at Daytona, and since then has yet to return to victory lane (not counting his DQ at Rockingham). Justin Allgaier has yet another shot at a championship as he sits in on his age-40 season. Carson Kvapil is at risk of losing his ride next season. Finally, Connor Zilisch, who has led the Series all year, has led with an impressive 18 top-five finishes in a row.
- This year’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship Four may be the most competitive since the format was introduced in 2014. First, Kyle Larson has had one of the most consistent seasons of any driver this year. William Byron leads the Series in laps led and won the Series regular-season championship. Denny Hamlin returns to the championship for the first time since 2021; this time, he leads the Series in wins. Finally, Chase Briscoe, one of the Series’ best underdog stories, has a career high in wins and a Series high seven pole wins.
