What’s Happening?

Despite the return of NBC Sports Network, NASCAR has confirmed that the sport’s cable broadcasts through NBCUniversal will remain on USA Network, now under newly named producer, USA Sports.

  • In early October, following a dispute between NBCUniversal and YouTube TV during the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, NBC announced that the shuttered cable channel, NBC Sports, would return this fall. This led NASCAR fans to speculate that the sport could be moving back to its former cable home, NBCSN, for 2026.
  • However, according to a Wednesday press release announcing race start times and the 2025 NASCAR National Series TV schedule, NASCAR stated, “USA Sports is home to the entire NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs,” thereby silencing speculation that the sport could return to the newly relaunched NBC Sports Network.
  • From 2012 to 2021, NBCUniversal operated NBC Sports Network as the sports-exclusive cable arm of NBC. However, following its closure, NASCAR, a former staple of NBCSN, moved to another NBCUniversal network, USA, a partnership that has and will continue into its new seven-year media rights deal.
  • As part of these changes at NBCUniversal, the network has also spun off its TV Cable channels, such as USA, Syfy, and MSNBC, into a new company called Versant. Though NASCAR will have 10 fall 2026 races on Versant’s USA, they will continue to have four races on the main NBC network. USA Sports will produce all 14 races.
