What’s Happening?

NASCAR veteran David Starr is set to make his NASCAR Cup Series return next weekend at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta.

  • This race will be Starr’s first Cup Series race since Martinsville last spring. Much like that start, Starr will race the No. 66 for Carl Long’s Garage 66, formerly MBM Motorsports. This year, Starr has just one start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, finishing 26th at Darlington.
  • Starr has been a part of NASCAR for some time now, making his National Series debut in 1998 in the Craftsman Truck Series. The Texas native has bounced around all three National Series, though he has made the bulk of his starts in the Truck Series.
  • The 57-year-old also has 18 career NASCAR Cup Series starts, dating back to his series debut in 2011. Racing with mostly backmarker teams, Starr has a best career finish of 23rd at Texas Motors Speedway in 2021.
  • That finish came behind the wheel of the part-time No. 66, a car Starr has driven eight times prior to this next weekend. This year, Garage 66 has had Casey Mears, Chad Finchum, and Josh Bilicki behind the wheel.
