- NASCAR apparently pitched the ideas to Cup Series teams a few weeks ago. However, after some back and forth, team owners opted not to go this route. While referred to as a rumor during the podcast, NASCAR insider Jeff Gluck of The Athletic has since backed Tatarevic’s claims on X.
- Run What Ya Brung is a common and self-explanatory expression used in different forms of racing. For NASCAR’s purposes, Tatarevic claims that officials were willing to allow teams to start the race in whatever combination of adjustments and aero package they wanted as long as the car passed safety inspections.
- However, team owners shot down this idea due to the time and money that could be involved in the process of preparing for this non-points-paying race. “I’ve heard a lot of the team owners didn’t want to go down that path because some probably felt that it could open up a Pandora’s box of different things,” said Tatarevic.
- This idea seems to be NASCAR’s latest attempt to use the short-track race as a testing ground for the NASCAR Next Gen Cars Short Track package. Last season, NASCAR debuted the “option” tire, which has since been used on multiple tracks during the All-Star race.
