What’s Happening?

NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series team AM Racing is returning for the 2026 season after a planned sale to another team fell through.

UPDATE 4:00 PM EST: In a post on their website, SPS confirmed that they had “terminated” their plans to compete in the NASCAR OAP Series. Saying, “While SPS’s participation in this program was halted effective January 28th, 2026, SPS will continue to support the smooth and effective transition of this competition program in full cooperation with AM Racing.” Per Owner Joe Farré, the team will continue its operations in ARCA and late models.

On November 14, 2025, the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff team AM Racing confirmed a rumored sale to well-known ARCA Menards Series team Sigma Performance Services.

At the time, the newly dubbed SPS Racing was set to field at least one full-time Ford entry in the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season, with rumors that they could even field another part-time entry.

These plans are seemingly put on pause, as Friday morning, AM Racing posted to the once again rebranded AM Racing X account that the deal “was not finalized.”

The post did not share any details of the failed sale, but clarified that the team plans to continue racing in NASCAR’s second-highest level in 2026. Following the departure of full-time driver Harrison Burton this past offseason, the team is set to announce a new driver in the coming weeks.

This change in course comes with just days until OAP Series cars are set to take the track in the February 14 season opener at Daytona.

Prior to this announcement, SPS, which has competed in NASCAR’s ARCA Menards in recent years, was seemingly set to run the operation, having hosted driver Amber Balcaen during the ARCA preseason test, with Balcaen now driving a Ford, as opposed to the team’s former Chevrolets.

The team had even shared images online of a wrapped SPS pit box, and as of this week, per NASCAR’s list of 2026 NASCAR OAP Series owner point transfers, transferred AM Racing’s owners’ points to their name for 2026.

As of press time, SPS has not announced any details of its plans for the coming season. This is a developing story, and may be updated as new information emerges.
