What’s Happening?
As expected, NASCAR has suspended Crew Chief Kevin Walter for one race after the Xfinity Series post-race inspection at Texas Motor Speedway. Walter’s No. 10 car, piloted by Daniel Dye, was found to have two loose or missing lug nuts after Saturday’s race.

- As part of this short penalty report, Walter’s team, Kaulig Racing, has been fined $10,000, and he will miss the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kaulig has yet to announce who will take over duties for the No. 10 car for that May 24 race weekend.
- This penalty was expected, with a monetary fine and suspension being the standard for this specific violation of NASCAR’s lug nut policy. Of course, while the Cup Series has just a single lug nut, the Xfinity and Truck Series maintain the traditional five-lug pattern.
- This is a tough start for the Kaulig Racing Crew Chief, who is just in his second season on top of the pit box. Walter’s suspension also means that he will not return to his post until May 31 at Nashville Superspeedway, as the Xfinity Series has the next two weekends off.
- Though he was swapped from his original spot with Josh Williams to Shane van Gisbergen’s ride 20 races into the 2024 season, Walter and his new driver, Daniel Dye, have exceeded expectations so far. Helped by incredible consistency, Dye is currently third in Rookie of the Year standings and one spot out of the playoff picture.
