NASCAR is once again moving its preseason Clash to another track, though this time, the event is heading back home to Daytona Beach.
Per a new report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, sources say the sport is heading back to Daytona International Speedway’s oval on a new weekend correlating with the new Super Bowl/Daytona 500 schedule.
NASCAR previously announced that, due to the Super Bowl being moved up a week, the 500 would also be moved up to avoid a television conflict.
This season, the Clash, held at historic Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was scheduled for the weekend of February 4, but, per Bianchi, will now take place on Saturday, February 13, the day before the Super Bowl.
The 500 will be held on February 21, making Speedweek, once again, Speedweeks (technically speaking, that is). However, it is worth noting that NASCAR has yet to confirm the Clash’s return to Daytona.

There are a handful of potential reasons for the move.
For one, many fans believe the event belongs at Daytona. Furthermore, the weather in Winston-Salem was a major problem for the sport this year, as it had seen heavy snowfall, which shifted the race to midweek.
Still, NASCAR is planning to host a major preseason test to work on its Superspeedway racing product, and this race may serve as a potential first showing of what comes out of that test.
Of course, the Clash was held at Daytona from 1979 to 2021, and on the track’s road course during that final season. But after years of diminishing returns and fan interest, the race moved to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
After a three-year stint at the converted football stadium, the race moved back home to North Carolina, serving as the first NASCAR National Series event at Bowman Gray Stadium since 1971.
This move, if NASCAR does in fact make it, will put Bowman Gray’s National Series future back in question.
While NASCAR has the lease to operate and has made many improvements, some fans have expressed fear about the track returning to just regional racing.
