What’s Happening?

Due to an unapproved adjustment, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Layne Riggs was not allowed to lay down a qualifying lap for Friday’s Love’s RV Stop 225 Playoff race at Talladega and will start the race at the rear of the field.

  • Per the Pre-Race Inspection Report from NASCAR, Riggs’ Front Row Motorsports No. 34 was found to have made an unapproved adjustment after initially passing pre-qualifying inspection. As a result, Riggs was not allowed to post a qualifying lap.
  • Fortunately for Riggs, who currently sits one point below the Round of Four cutline, he will start the race, albeit at the rear of the field. Though he is the deepest playoff driver in the field of 36 trucks, the race to make the cutline is close, with the last-place driver, Kaden Honeycutt, just four points back.
  • Riggs was not the only driver to face issues in inspection, as Greg Van Alst’s No. 35, Luke Fenhaus’ No. 66, and Ty Majeski’s No. 98 all failed inspection the first time around. As all three of these entries passed on their second try, they are only facing the ejection of their respective truck chief and loss of pit selection at the next race they enter.
  • Like most superspeedway events, Talladega does not have a practice session, meaning teams arrive at the track on Thursday, set up, qualify, and then race. Friday’s race is another mid-afternoon race set to start at 4:00 PM EST and will be aired on the main FOX network despite originally being set to air on FS1.
