What’s Happening?

Ahead of perhaps the most important race weekend of the 2025 season, travel issues have forced NASCAR to make crucial schedule changes to this weekend’s race at Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

  • Thursday afternoon, two flights leaving Charlotte Douglas International Airport failed to take off. As a result, drivers, crew members, and NASCAR personnel onboard were forced to find an alternative route to Mexico City, with some headed to Atlanta to catch a flight further south.
  • With their hands tied, NASCAR officials decided to move NASCAR Xfinity Series practice from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. Furthermore, NASCAR is changing the practice schedule from two sessions to one 50-minute session at 11:05 a.m. ET.
  • The NASCAR Cup Series will still have its two sessions on Friday afternoon. However, they are pushing back both sessions to later in the afternoon. Now, session one will be at 4:05 p.m. ET, and session two 5:30 p.m. ET.
  • Nonetheless, for the Xfinity Series, what was supposed to be 75 minutes worth of practice is now just 50. The loss of practice time, while necessary given the circumstances, will be crucial for these drivers, as the NASCAR Xfinity Series has not raced at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez since 2008.
