What’s Happening?

NASCAR has confirmed the passing of two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch at age 41 following a short battle with illness.

Busch was withdrawn from this weekend’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with what his team called a “severe illness.” At 5:40 PM, NASCAR announced via social media that Busch, 41 years old, had died.

In a statement, Busch’s team, Richard Childress Racing, and NASCAR said, “On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch.”

Busch’s cause of death is unknown at this time, but his family has asked for privacy as they process his passing.

Busch was a two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion and a record setter, with the most combined wins, 234, and the most all-time Truck Series wins, 69, of which he tacked on to this past weekend at Dover Motor Speedway.

While he will be remembered for his wins and success, the broader NASCAR community will remember him for his personality, one that set him apart in a different category than other drivers in the NASCAR garage.

This is a developing story.
