What’s Happening?

NASCAR is requesting that chartered race teams not involved in the ongoing 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports antitrust lawsuit produce key financial documents in a new filing.

  • In this new filing from NASCAR, the sports legal team claims, “These team financial documents are critical to NASCAR’s defense because several major components of ‘industry revenues,’ such as team sponsorship revenues, are known only to the individual teams.”
  • The filing also claims that they subpoenaed teams that are part of the Racing Teams Alliance in April, requesting “eleven categories of documents” by Apr. 24. To appease requests for anonymity from the teams, NASCAR’s legal team laid out guidelines for using these documents in their ongoing case.
  • NASCAR’s legal team will keep this information in their offices away from NASCAR. They will also inform the team two days before using the information provided, and destroy the provided information following the case. This request from NASCAR will be heard in court next Tuesday.
  • By obtaining these documents, NASCAR hopes to disprove claims made in the initial Oct. 2 joint antitrust lawsuit filed by 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports. This lawsuit has since splintered into several other proceedings, including the team’s ongoing battle for charter status and a Mar. 5 countersuit from NASCAR.
  • We have covered all angles of this lawsuit extensively via the timeline linked below.
