What’s Happening?
Thursday, Brad Daugherty, a long-time NASCAR broadcaster and co-owner of Hyak Motorsports, announced today that he will join NBC’s upcoming NBA coverage this fall.
Thrilled to announce I'm joining the @NBAonNBC team for the 2025-26 season. I'm pumped for this next step in the journey, and more hoops! 🎙️🏀

Don’t worry, @cavs fans – I’m not going anywhere! I'll still be on the mic as Lead Analyst with the @FanDuelSN_CLE crew. 🙌🏽 pic.twitter.com/wdzoTH0fd2
- His return to national TV coincides with the NBA’s return to NBC, a network that has not carried professional basketball since 2002. The NBA will join NASCAR on the network starting this fall. Daugherty also confirmed in his post on X that he will retain his role as lead analyst for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- Throughout the years, Daugherty, a long-time fan of the sport and North Carolina native, has appeared on NASCAR television less and less. However, that hasn’t kept him away from broadcasting, as he served as an analyst for FanDuel Sports Network Ohio’s coverage of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- In recent seasons, he has sporadically worked with NASCAR on NBC, but perhaps the former NBA legend’s most iconic work was with NASCAR on ESPN from 2007 to 2014. He most recently served as an analyst for NBC’s studio coverage of NASCAR Cup Series racing in 2024.
- Though the team recently underwent a rebranding and ownership change, Daugherty has maintained his ownership stake in HYAK Motorsports, formerly JTG-Daugherty Racing. In his stretch as a co-owner of the No. 47 car, the team has won three races, including the 2023 Daytona 500.
