What’s Happening?

After an alleged leak of the lineup for Wave 2 of Lionel’s 2026 line of NASCAR Authentics 1:64-scale diecast, the brand has confirmed the wave’s six-car lineup.

  • Despite its name, this wave is technically the third wave of the 2026 season. The first was Wave 1A, which featured throwbacks from the 2025 season, followed by Wave 1.
  • Late last week, the NASCAR community got its first look at wave 2 thanks to social media posts from users who were lucky enough to find it early. This is common with NASCAR Authentics; however, the wave was not officially confirmed until Lionel’s announcement Thursday morning.
  • The field of cars features a mix of 2025 and 2026 paint schemes, including Ryan Preece’s 2026 Trimble car and Ryan Blaney’s 2025 BodyArmor Chill paint scheme. This wave also features the trimmed-down lineup size seen in the first two waves of 2026, with six total cars and a Kyle Busch Liquid Color Chase Piece.
  • The fan reaction to the wave, and its earlier leak, was a mix of excitement at a return to the regular Authentics release schedule and disappointment at the lack of series diversity in the wave. As of press time, Lionel has released only two NASCAR OAP Series diecasts in the 2026 line of NASCAR Authentics, and no NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series diecast.
