What’s Happening?

Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy Motor Club has been denied its motion for preliminary injunction in its ongoing lawsuit with fellow NASCAR Cup Series team Rick Ware Racing.

  • If granted, this injunction would have prevented RWR from selling or leasing the charter at the center of the two teams’ ongoing lawsuit.
  • The injunction was first featured alongside a temporary restraining order in LMC’s heavily redacted Apr. 1 lawsuit. LMC was granted the temporary restraining order on April 9, which prevented RWR from leasing or selling the charter “for at least 10 days or until agreement by Legacy and RWR.”
  • LMC, of which seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Jimmie Johnson is the majority owner, first sued RWR, claiming the Ford team “wants to back out” of selling a Charter to LMC. The initial filing also emphasized RWR’s current financial status, alleging that the team was “strapped for cash and unable to compete at a Cup Series level.”
  • LMC, which races Toyotas, currently owns two Charters for drivers John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones. They are attempting to purchase a third charter, for a record price of $45 million, from RWR. RWR also owns two charters, one of which is used in-house for Cody Ware, while the other is leased to RFK Racing for their No. 60.
  • We have covered this lawsuit extensively via the link below.
