What’s Happening?

John Hunter Nemechek will return to Legacy Motor Club’s No. 42 for the 2027 season, the team announced Tuesday.

Per the press release from LMC, which focuses on the return of sponsor Rexel, Nemechek, who first signed with LMC ahead of the 2024 season, is keeping his seat at the team ahead of what will be one of their biggest Silly Seasons yet.

While few expected Nemechek to be on the move at year’s end, things are shaking up at LMC, with the team slated to expand to three full-time cars in 2027.

Legacy has yet to announce a driver for that new full-time ride, the No. 84, but some rumors pin Riley Herbst as their leading candidate, with other names like Harrison Burton and Jesse Love among the rumored options.

With Jones and Nemechek, LMC as a whole showed major improvement on track last season.

Though the team is finally taking steps in the right direction, there is still plenty of work to be done. For one, LMC has still failed to find victory lane since Jimmie Johnson’s purchase and rebranding ahead of the 2023 season.

Prior to that, under the Petty-GMS Racing banner, the team last won with Jones at Darlington in 2022.

There is still no official word that Jones will be back in the No. 43 for next season, though it seems unlikely that the two parties would move on from one another.
