What’s Happening?

NASCAR fans keeping up with the lawsuit between Joe Gibbs Racing and their former Competition Director, Chris Gabehart, may have to wait a little longer, as the trial might happen after the conclusion of the 2026 season.

  • Joe Gibbs Racing filed its lawsuit against former Daytona 500-winning Crew Chief and Competition Director Chris Gabehart in February. But, per a new filing, the team is requesting a trial date of November 16, one week after the end of the NASCR Cup Series Season.
  • The lawsuit, which now includes Gabehart’s new employer, Spire Motorsports, claims that Gabehart walked away from his role at JGR with “trade secrets.” JGR claims this alleged theft includes both business and technical information about the team.
  • Throughout the allegations, Gabehart and Spire brass have denied them and accused JGR of mismanaging their team during Gabehart’s 2025 tenure as Competition Director.
  • While this may seem like a lengthy timeline for the lawsuit to play out, a court date after the NASCAR season has concluded will likely be best for both parties. In the meantime, their legal team will prepare their cases to present.
  • Of course, all of this is barring some form of settlement, of which talks are few and far between as the lawsuit rolls into its third month.
