Larry McReynolds … The One Time He Was Almost Ready to Quit

No other crew chief has ever experienced the kind of tumultuous ride that Larry McReynolds had at Robert Yates Racing between 1992 and 1995, but it was the rocky start to the 1995 season with Dale Jarrett that just about got the best of him.

• Something about NASCAR in the 1990s that’s different from today is the basically unlimited testing that teams were able to do. This led to some great stories and a lot of fast race cars. Do you think NASCAR should try to bring this back?
• Larry McReynolds told a funny story of when he had to do a driver swap in the middle of testing with a driver who wasn’t medically cleared. What do you think would’ve been the punishment if they got caught for this?
• In the 1995 season, Larry McReynolds almost walked away from being a crew chief in the NASCAR Cup Series. How do you think NASCAR would be today if Reynolds retired in that year?
