What’s Happening?
A rough start to the season can stir up off-track drama for any driver. However, just three races into the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, one driver has consistently remained at the center of attention.
Kris Wright’s 2025 Season (So Far)
It was a rather quiet off-season for Kris Wright despite his signing with OUR Motorsports. When Wright signed with OUR, the main storyline surrounding his signing was not about him but rather about where the team’s departing driver, Anthony Alfredo, would race in 2025.
When Wright and the team headed to Daytona to kick off the season, Wright quietly qualified 17th. However, he started an online firestorm when he crashed into Josh Bilicki. This was no ordinary crash, as Wright, speeding towards pit entry during green flag pit stops, slammed into the back of Bilicki. Following the incident, most figured it was some form of brake failure. However, Wright told the CW it was “just bad communication with [my] spotter.”
Kris Wright says that it was NOT a brake failure, he said it was a miscommunication with his spotter that led to him slamming into the back of Josh Bilicki. Says he had a braking issue, but miscommunication caused the crash. #NASCAR

As the series headed to Atlanta, any drama or questions around the incident slowly died down. After Atlanta, Wright was no longer a hot topic of conversation as most fans were focused on why no caution flag was thrown following the last-lap crash that seemingly ended both his and Bilicki’s day.
Circuit of the Americas
At Circuit of the Americas, all seemed to be okay. However, during the race, the official DGM Racing account posted about another alleged incident involving Bilicki and the No. 5.

The reference to three weeks in a row refers to the race in Atlanta in which the two seemed to have a separate incident on the last lap compared to the rest of the field. Late Saturday evening, Bilicki posted this to his X, further calling out Wright.
Really fast car, not much to show for it.

Started at the rear of the field after we had to fix a few issues after qualifying. Top 12 pace all day but a pit road speeding penalty at the end of stage two set us back. We were charging forward until the 5 car spun right in front of… pic.twitter.com/7bCuXJV4sv
Wright responded with words of his own, which sparked a quick back-and-forth between the two drivers about exactly what happened.

Kris further followed up on his account.
Getting blamed for something that’s there’s not even a video of. Literally got loose and next thing I know I’m getting cleaned out

This argument escalated further as Wright even engaged fans’ comments about what happened. However, by Sunday, most thought the argument was in the past—that was until Wright once again brought up the situation by posting a photo from the run-in the two had in Atlanta.
Hey @joshbilicki I was gonna let it go, but you brought up Atlanta and it was you who actually wrecked us so thank you. Ran out of talent and couldn’t hold a line pic.twitter.com/6mvgkTLbDK

The Wright Debate
While the squabble between the two drivers seems to be over, at least for now, it has re-engaged fans’ conversations about Wright’s abilities in NASCAR.

38th in owners points
Has a target painted on his back because he can’t stop screwing over Bilicki
Throwing Crew members under the bus
Our Motorsports signed a death certificate….
I’d rather hire a trained monkey than employ Kris Wright https://t.co/X6qrQXXZ6k
As previously stated, Wright took over the No. 5 for Anthony Alfredo. While Alfredo and Wright are considered journeyman drivers, OUR Motorsports’ decision to move on from Alfredo was odd.
In their careers, the two drivers have made varying starts throughout the three NASCAR National Series, yet Alfredo remains the more experienced driver. Furthermore, last season, Alfredo drove the No. 5 to two top-fives and seven top-tens. In comparison, Wright has 66 starts in the truck and Xfinity series and has yet to have a top-ten finish.
Until 2025, Wright had yet to run a full season in the NASCAR National Series. That being said he did race full-time in the 2024 ARCA Menards Series. While Wright’s stats look good on the surface level, with eight top-fives, 12 top-tens, and a third-place points finish, he was one of just eight full-time drivers.
There is a lot of the season left; however, three races in, Wright has had as eventful a season as most drivers see in a 33-race season. While this story could develop throughout the year, it is likely that as Wright adjusts to the Series and other stories unfold, it could be forgotten. But, after this weekend, fans will be closely watching Wright for any slip-up as the season goes on.
