What’s Happening?

Katherine Legge will race in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 as the official entry list for Sunday’s race confirms that with just 39 entries, Legge will not have to make the field for the 600 on speed.

Legge announced her intentions to race in the famed “Double” last week. While the 45-year-old Brit is locked into the Indianapolis leg of her plans for Sunday, Charlotte was not a guarantee.

This is because her team, Live Fast Motorsports, does not hold one of NASCAR’s 36 Charters, which guarantees a car automatic entry into every points race.

That means that if more than 40 cars show up, she would have had to make the 600 on qualifying time.

Nonetheless, per NASCAR’s official preliminary entry list, Legge will not have to worry about that issue this weekend, as she is the 39th entrant of the 39-car field.

This is, of course, barring any late entrants into the race, though there are no rumors of such entries, and there would have to be more than one to put Legge at any risk of missing the field.

While Legge is the first woman to attempt The Double, she is far from the first driver to do so. Still, luck has been on her side so far, given the small entry lists for either race.

Qualifying for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 is set for Saturday at 2:40 PM. Legge has already made her qualifying laps for the 500; she will start 27th Sunday afternoon in her HMD Motorsports/A. J. Foyt Racing No. 11.
