What’s Happening?

Former 18-time NASCAR Cup Series winner Kasey Kahne will race in NASCAR once again this season. In partnership with Richard Childress Racing, the 44-year-old will race in the Xfinity Series and return to Rockingham on Apr. 19.

  • Kahne will drive the No. 33 for RCR with sponsorship from HendrickCars.com. While he is racing for Childress, this deal has some connection to Hendrick Motorsports, as Kahne said in RCR’s press release, “Very appreciative of the opportunity that Mr. Hendrick, Richard (Childress), and everyone at RCR have given me.”
  • This race will be Kahne’s first NASCAR start since 2018 and his first NASCAR Xfinity Series race since 2017. Kahne is an eight-time winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and won his last race in 2014 at Daytona with JR Motorsports.
  • NASCAR is returning to Rockingham Speedway for the first time since 2013. That 2013 race was a Truck Series race, and this year, both the Trucks and Xfinity Series will race at Rockingham. However, the Xfinity Series race will be the first Xfinity Series race at the Rock since 2004.
  • Kahne has a tough history at the Rock in the Xfinity Series, with his best finish being 16th in 2002. However, in his lone Cup Series start, Kasey had a top-five finish, and in his lone Truck Series start at the track in 2012, Kasey won.
  • His last NASCAR start was in 2018 with Leavine Family Racing at Darlington. That season began with him ousted at Hendrick Motorsports and ended with Kahne injured and out of the No. 95. Since then, Kasey has stepped away from NASCAR to focus on his dirt racing team.
