Toyota teammates clashed again at Kansas, and this time it opened the door for Chase Elliott to steal a victory in dramatic fashion. A race already packed with chaos, flips, double overtime, and relentless side-by-side duels, ended with the No. 9 Chevrolet taking the Round of 8 berth when the Toyotas tripped over each other. Eric saw Kansas deliver yet again, with the race showcasing why the track has become one of NASCAR’s best intermediates. He highlighted the three and four-lane racing, constant crossovers for the lead, and the fact that Hamlin’s stage sweep didn’t reflect how competitive the race really was.
Penske’s surge from the back, a restart crash, and late drama with Zane Smith and the Toyotas kept fans on edge before Chase Elliott sealed the win in double overtime.
While the finish was stretched out by a long red flag delay, Eric emphasized the race didn’t need overtime to be memorable, as the racing product itself carried the day.
Eric’s Groovy Gauge landed at 95%, calling Kansas one of the season’s standout shows. He left a little room for improvement due to pacing at the end, but praised the track’s ability to consistently produce high-quality racing.
