What’s Happening?

As we went green to start the final stage in the Xfinity Series race at Richmond, contact between Dawson Cram and Xfinity veteran Joey Gase sent Gase’s No. 35 Chevy hard into the outside wall. This would end Gase’s race but the real story here is what happened after Gase exited his car. To voice his frustration, Gase tore the rear bumper cover from his car, walked down the track, and threw it at Cram’s No. 4 Chevy.

You Need To Know:

  • Short tempers come with the short track racing territory so we knew something like this was bound to happen. The issue for Joey Gase, though, is that NASCAR tends to frown upon a driver walking down towards traffic to voice their displeasure with another driver.
  • Only time will tell if Gase will be penalized in any way for his actions or if he’ll just get a stern talking to. Regardless, it sure was a sight to see live.
  • Fans got a kick out of this as drivers hardly voice their displeasure like this these days. It was a real throwback moment to NASCAR hay day.

The Main Character(s)

Reporters caught up with owner-driver Joey Gase. He says in this interview provided by Noah Lewis that Dawson Cram is a “good kid” but he “loses his head” every week. He just wanted to point out to Cram what he did by tossing him a little “souvenir”.

Gase then took to X to post this passive aggressive picture of the damage.

The drivers eventually met up on pit road following the race and hashed things out for themselves.

Around The Garage

Joey Gase Racing posted this on their official X account immediately after the incident. They say, without so much as a stutter, “we got wrecked!”

From The Officials

As reported by Jonathan Fjeld, NASCAR will review the Joey Gase bumper throw this week and plan to have a conversation about it. He posted this picture of Xfinity Rulebook Second 8.3.5 which specifically deals with this sort of situation.

In The Stands

Brockton Packard says that the move wasn’t safe on Gase’ part.

David Fanelli believes that Joey Gase will definitely be finned for the throw…but he applauds his creativity.

Lori Thompson is ready to induct Joey Gase into the “NASCAR Pissed Off HOF” along with Josh Williams, Tony Stewart, and Bobby Allison.

Ryan Cliver says he understands Joey’s frustration but also accuses Gase of being “weapon” every time he’s on track.

On Your Screen

YouTuber Skewcar posts that Joey Gase is NOT HAPPY with Dawson Cram.

From The Pressbox

nascarcasm posted this humorous tidbit.

Conclusion

There’s still a lot more racing left to go in Richmond! Will more short track tempers flare up? Only time will tell. Regardless, this race has been thrilling through and through.
