Joe Gibbs Racing Makes Its First Move of NASCAR Silly Season

What’s Happening?

Joe Gibbs Racing has signed its first driver of 2027 NASCAR Silly Season, extending NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Taylor Gray for a third season of competition in the team’s No. 54 car.

• Gray isn’t the only piece of the puzzle back at JGR and the No. 54 team next season, as veteran crew chief Jason Ratcliff is also returning for 2027. Ratcliff, a 59-time winner in the OAPS Series, is a former Series Champion with driver Kyle Busch in 2009.
• Last year, Gray was just one of three drivers in a stacked rookie class to win a race, breaking through at Martinsville in October. The 21-year-old has one win to his name this season at Kansas Speedway, and currently sits 12th in points.
• There was little discussion as to whether or not Gray would move on from JGR at year’s end. Though he is far from the top of the heap in the series, he is a winning driver with deep ties to Toyota.
• As of press time, the team has yet to announce any other news for their 2027 OAP Series roster. Most expect that rookie Brent Crews will return to his seat for 2027, as he is expected to be on a path to JGR’s Cup Series program in the coming seasons.
