What’s Happening?

Denny Hamlin will remain with Joe Gibbs Racing beyond the next two seasons, as the team has announced a new, multi-year contract extension for the veteran racer.

  • Though the details of the contract are unknown, the terminology suggests that Hamlin will remain the driver of the No. 11 car through the 2027 season. This follows months of speculation about the 44-year-old’s future, as he is on a contract year for a deal he signed in 2023, though word in the garage area remained that he would return in 2026.
  • Despite winning three races last season, the losses of sponsors FedEx and Mavis left fans wondering if Hamlin could find himself out of a job, as these losses lined up with a contract season. However, Hamlin has continued not only to win but remain well supported, with the team bringing on multiple new primary sponsors alongside a major 18-race deal with Insurance provider Progressive.
  • This season, Hamlin has continued to defy all expectations, adding four more wins after the age of 40, bringing that total to 12. Furthermore, Progressive’s investment in Hamlin is paying off on track. Hamlin has seven top-five finishes and two wins in ten races into their 18-race sponsorship, all while continuing to pursue his first championship.
  • Beyond his success in the past few seasons, Hamlin has his eyes set on achieving one more achievement in his Hall of Fame career before retirement. Beyond his three Daytona 500 wins, Hamlin sits 11th all-time with 57 wins and would like to secure a spot in the top ten for the long term. This means he will have to not only pass 10th-place Kevin Harvick but also his former teammate and active wins leader Kyle Busch, who has 63.
