Joe Dan Bailey on His Dad … Legendary NASCAR Independent Driver H.B. Bailey

Although he wasn’t around every week, H.B. Bailey was instantly recognizable once he walked through the gates of the Winston Cup garage. Scraggly beard cigar jewelry leather floppy hat or maybe a cowboy hat  H.B. left quite the impression. Joe Dan Bailey H.B.’s son  remembers his father as a tough, but fair, mentor. Joe Dan eventually used those lessons learned as a steppingstone to a career in the sport

• We all know in the early days of the sport the rules and regulations were much more relaxed than they are now, Joe Dan Bailey first went over the wall as a Pit crew member 16 years old. How would you feel being 16 and having that much responsibility and danger?
• Joe Dan Bailey had the opportunity to witness one of the most historic moments in the sport watching Richard Petty get his 200th win. Are there any other moments in NASCAR history more historic than this?
• H.B. Bailey was the pioneer for many of the comfort aspects of being a NASCAR Cup Series driver such as bringing his own food truck and motorhome to the racetrack. How important do you think motorhomes are to the conditioning of NASCAR Cup Series drivers today?
