In the latest development in the Lawsuit between Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy Motor Club and Rick Ware Racing, Legacy has obtained a temporary restraining order.
Legacy has obtained temporary restraining order in lawsuit vs Rick Ware Racing over agreement to sell charter to Legacy that LMC claims is to be sold after 2025 season. TRO ruling redacts details but my guess is it keeps charter from being allocated elsewhere for 2026 at moment.

- Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports reports this temporary restraining order prevents RWR from leasing or selling the charter “for at least 10 days or until agreement by Legacy and RWR.”
- Legacy sued RWR on April 1, claiming that the Ford team, which owns two NASCAR Cup Series Charters, “wants to back out” of selling a Charter to Legacy. According to subsequent reports, RWR claims they were under the impression the sale would be for the 2027 season, while Legacy claims it would be for the 2026 season.
- On Tuesday, news broke from the Dale Jr Download that Legacy had agreed to purchase this Charter for a record-high $45 million, breaking the $40 million mark set by Spire Motorsports after the 2023 season. No matter the result of this lawsuit, it looks like RWR is set for a major payday.
- Legacy currently owns two Charters, both of which were leased by RWR in the past. RWR also currently owns two Charters. However, the team leases one to RFK Racing while entering the other at No. 51.
