What’s Happening?

NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson is teaming up with TRICON Garage for his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race since 2008.

Johnson teased the potential of racing in the Truck Series in a post on X in November. But, until now, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion had yet to confirm any plans to do so.

Despite this radio silence, many expected that if Johnson did race in the Truck Series, it would be in the inaugural San Diego Street Race in June.

With Johnson now confirmed to be entered in the truck race that weekend, he is set up to pull double duty for the first time since the spring 2013 race weekend at Phoenix Raceway.

For this effort, Johnson is joining forces with TRICON Garage, piloting the team’s No. 1 truck. The No. 1 is a full-time all-star truck, and Johnson is the first confirmed name on its list of drivers for 2026.

If he makes the race, Johnson will compete in his second-ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. His first race was nearly 20 years ago when Johnson competed at Bristol Motor Speedway for a team owned by NFL legend Randy Moss.

Most importantly, this announcement confirms that NASCAR intends to allow drivers to enter multiple series on the same race weekend.

Much like Johnson, expect other Cup Series regulars to announce their entries into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and O’Reilly Auto Parts series to get more on-track time ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series race that Sunday.
