What’s Happening
During lap 1 of the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix, Brad Keselowski went spinning after he reported his No. 6 Wyndham Ford Mustang bottomed out off the rumble strips out of Turn 19. His RFK racing teammate, Chris Buescher, made an evasive dodge to avoid his spinning teammate. He tagged the rear corner panel of the Spire Motorsports No. 77 of Ty Dillion, who went sliding into 7-time Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson.
Johnson received heavy right rear damage on his No. 84 Legacy Motor Club Chevy.
- In Jimmie Johnson’s two starts coming out of retirement, he hasn’t found a very warm welcome. After a strong start at the Daytona 500, he was taken out in a late race wreck that led to an overtime finish. Jimmie has yet to finish any of his Cup starts for his newly owned team.
- The team of the No. 84 Chevrolet tried desperately to make repairs to Johnson’s car, but they reached the 7-minute Damage Vehicle Policy, which ended their day.
- Many fans had high hopes on seeing Jimmie return for another Cup race, but were quickly let down after being collected in the incident on lap 1.
