What’s Happening?
During a post-race press conference in Talladega, Alabama, NASCAR journalist Noah Lewis, asked Jeb Burton about whether or not he recalled making contact with driver of the No. 16 Chevy for Kaulig Racing, Chandler Smith. In his response, Burton did not mince words. In his conference with Lewis, Burton stated that he didn’t know what Smith’s problem was and that he has a fast car, “he’s just not using his brain”.
You Need To Know:
- Burton’s comments were in response to earlier comments Chandler Smith made when talking to Lewis. Never being a driver to hold back his emotions, Smith fired off at Burton, stating that the Xfinity Series race at ‘Dega was a “sh*t show” and that Burton “ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed”.
- What triggered these comments was an on-track incident which was the catalyst for a big one which took out all but seven cars, including Smith’s No. 16. Smith, very upset, blamed some of the aggressive blocks by Burton up front for causing the accident.
- Fans overall didn’t take too kindly to Burton’s comments, many of them saying that he’s only in the position he is in because of his last name. They feel that he doesn’t have the receipts to back up his comments. Are they right?
The Main Characters
Chandler Smith has never been one to hold back his feelings for another driver. Last year he was very critical of his own KBM teammate, J. H. Nemecheck, for his aggressive driving. After being released from the infield care center, here are his original comments captured by Noah Lewish:
In response after being prompted by Lewis, race winner, Jeb Burton, had this to say:
The field at large is one of the main characters because they were all driving aggressively for much of the end of that race. Jeb Burton cannot be held solely responsible for the incident. Here is the incident Smith alludes to prior to his original comments:
