What’s Happening?
What has long been rumored was confirmed tonight as NASCAR officially announced that 2025’s rendition of the Busch Light Clash will be run at Bowman Gray Stadium on February 2nd of that year. Bowman Gray Stadium is a football stadium for the Winston-Salem State University Rams and a NASCAR-sanctioned short track. The facility is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina which is about 80-miles north of Charlotte.
The last time the NASCAR Cup Series raced at Bowman Gray Stadium was 1971. Since then, however, it has been a regular part of various NASCAR weekly series schedules. The track layout, similar to the temporary track built inside the Los Angeles Coliseum the bast three years, is a quarter-mile in length. It looks like some more beating and banging is in store to kick off NASCAR’s 2025 season!
- The first NASCAR race to take place at Bowman Gray was all the way back in the inaugural season of 1949. Fonty Flock won the first race. The track was opened and operated for a time by NASCAR founder, Big Bill France Sr. The NASCAR Cup Series returned to the tack annually up until 1971.
- In 2005, NASCAR returned to Bowman Gray for the first time. From the ’05 season until 2016 (when the series folded) the track was host to the NASCAR Wheelen Southern Modified Tour. Between 2011 and 2015, the track also hosted events for the K&N Pro Series.
- Fans have been clamoring for a return to Bowman Gray stadium for the last several year. No doubt this announcement will please many racegoers and long-time fans alike.
From The Officials
Per journalist Matt Weaver, Ben Kennedy stated during tonight’s announcement that NASCAR are assessing the facilities at Bowman Gray Stadium for safety upgrades. Necessary changes will be made but the sanctioning body would also like to preserve and respect what makes the venue so special.
