NASCAR Silly Season is in full swing, and while fans await the next major announcement, they are scraping together as much information as possible to find out what the next major move could be.
This past weekend, the NASCAR world turned its eyes to one name, Front Row Motorsports driver Layne Riggs.
The 24-year-old is in his third full-time season with the team and is the current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points leader, but has yet to announce any plans for 2027.
Since he is piecing together one of his best years yet, most fans do not expect Riggs to be out at FRM come year’s end, leaving most of his future up in the air for now.
During an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio prior to Saturday’s race at North Wilkesboro Speedway, the second-generation driver noted that he also does not know his 2027 plans just yet.
Still, he feels that a Cup Series ride could be in his future, saying that a promotion for 2027 “is” a possibility for next year and he is “working hard every day to try to make sure that happens.”
Of course, with the seats filling fast this silly season, such as the No. 21 at Wood Brothers Racing, this interview is raising questions about how Riggs could find his way to Cup.
While this interview was the talk of the town among fans this weekend, Riggs’ name has popped up quite a few times in the online rumor mill.
Particularly, Riggs is a frequent topic of conversation amid the ongoing questions surrounding Noah Gragson’s future in FRM’s No. 4 car.
Though he is barely a year and a half into his stint with the team, Gragson has somewhat publicly acknowledged uncertainty around his future at FRM, noting during a recent appearance on The Dale Jr Download that he did not fight driver Kevin Magnussen at the San Diego Street Circuit last month because, “I’m trying to get a job next year.”
While no rumors have directly confirmed that Riggs could replace Gragson if the team were to move on, a recent rumor did circulate that Riggs could be making his Cup Series debut in the team’s part-time No. 36 car later this season.
Nonetheless, for now, the saga of the No. 4 team and Riggs is a question that every NASCAR fan seems to be waiting on, as the team has yet to announce any plans for either the car or driver next season.
