NASCAR and fuel provider Sunoco are reportedly beginning the final year of their partnership without a new contract. Sunoco has been the official fuel of NASCAR since 2004, and while they will be part of the sport in 2025, their long-term future is in question.

- According to Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, sources say that they are beginning the season without a new contract. However, from that same report, Fred McConnell, Director of Marketing for Sunoco, told Stern that they are in talks for a new long term deal.
- This is a relieving sign for NASCAR and its fans, who have already seen one of NASCAR’s Premier Partners leave and another change their role in NASCAR. While Sunoco is considered an Official Partner, the loss of Premier Partners cannot be overlooked.
- The Premier Partner leaving is Geico Insurance, who left at the conclusion of the 2024 season. The Premier Partner changing their role is Xfinity. Xfinity will remain a Premier Partner in 2025 but is leaving its role as title sponsor of NASCAR’s secondary series. The telecom company will also sponsor the fastest lap award, which gives the driver with the fastest lap one bonus point.
- Sunoco took over as the official fuel of NASCAR in 2004 when longtime provider 76 stepped away from the sport. Sunoco is not the typical sponsor of NASCAR, as it provides fuel to all teams in all National Series. Its logo also appears in front of every car’s front tire.
- Alongside Goodyear, the Official Tire of NASCAR, Sunoco is one of NASCAR’s longest-tenured Official Partners. Sunoco has sponsored individual drivers such as ARCA regular Toni Breidinger. However, they notably sponsor NASCAR’s Rookie of the Year award, one of the most important awards in all of NASCAR.
