What’s Happening?
A new social media post by NASCAR veteran Jamie McMurray has fans wondering if the former Daytona 500 Champion could be getting back behind the wheel sometime soon.
This NASCAR season has played host to some shocking surprise returns and debuts.
Most of these have come in the Truck Series; there was Tony Stewart at Daytona, and then IndyCar veteran James Hinchcliffe and former Roush-Fenway Racing prospect Colin Braun at St. Petersburg.
Now, a post on the Instagram story of former Daytona 500 Champion, now TV analyst Jamie McMurray, is making the rounds on social media, with fans speculating the 49-year-old might be making his return to the sport in the near future.
The clip, originally posted by Impact Foam Solutions, shows McMurray doing a seat pour, which creates a mold for a seat specifically fitted to a driver.
The video is captioned “The comeback we’ve all been waiting for!”
While this could be an April Fool’s joke, Impact posted the video late Monday evening.
Despite the fact that McMurray has yet to announce a return to the sport, this video has the NASCAR community talking, with most expecting that a return to racing is on the way.
Who Would McMurray Race For and Where?
Jamie McMurray’s last NASCAR National Series start came in the 2021 Daytona 500 with Spire Motorsports, and since his two starts in his last full-time season in 2018, the Missouri native has raced exclusively for Chevrolet teams.
While there are options to race for Chevrolet teams like JR Motorsports in the OAP Series, Spire in the Craftsman Truck Series, or perhaps a Cup Series ride, one team is already drawing the attention of fans online.
In November, Kaulig Racing, ahead of its first season in the Craftsman Truck Series, and returning manufacturer Ram Trucks announced a special “Free Agent” truck that will feature a rotation of drivers throughout the season.
This truck has already seen the likes of Tony Stewart, Colin Braun, Ty Dillon, and Corey LaJoie take the wheel for one or more races, and, since the program’s announcement, many fans have hoped that McMurray could join that list.
Most hoped he would do so this weekend at Rockingham Speedway, a track McMurray dominated during his NASCAR Busch Series career. Though that ship has sailed, there are other familiar tracks he could attempt in the future, like Charlotte Motor Speedway
Nonetheless, the fact remains that McMurray, nor any of the speculated teams listed above, have announced any plans of racing together during the 2026 NASCAR National Series season.
