What’s Happening?

Harrison Burton is searching for a new job for 2025, as Josh Berry is set to replace Burton at The Wood Brothers. With seas being gobbled up left and right, the question becomes, is Burton done in the NASCAR Cup Series?

  • Harrison Burton did not improve in his three seasons with The Wood Brothers. His average finish has regressed yearly, and he has been on pace for his lowest points since joining The Wood Brothers.
  • However, Burton does have funding from Dex Imaging, which has supported him throughout his career. Could that give him a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series, or is he going elsewhere?
  • Fans are not surprised Burton is looking for a new ride. However, they are interested in seeing where he ends up.

Burton’s Cup Series Options

Given Burton’s performance and the current open rides, his options are quite limited. Front Row Motorsports’ third car, 23XI Racing’s potential third car, Trackhouse’s potential third car, and Haas Factory Team all have drivers reportedly favored for those rides, and Burton has not been named for any of them.

However, open seats at Kaulig Racing and Rick Ware Racing propose interesting options for Burton. Given that Burton has funding from Dex Imaging, part-time opportunities at, both of these teams aren’t out of the question. It all depends on how they choose to field their cars for 2025.

While Burton’s Cup Series career hasn’t produced much, he did win four races in the 2020 Xfinity Series season with Joe Gibbs Racing. There’s talent there. He only has two DNFs so far this season, down from seven in 2022 and six in 2023, showing that he is learning how to better take care of equipment. That’s important for every team owner.

While his options are limited, the Cup Series is not yet out of the picture for Burton. However, the lower series might give him a better chance to win races.

Looking at the Lower Series

Sticking with the Ford camp, Burton has plenty of options in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He could join Gene Haas in the new Haas Factory Team, or Burton could become a more permanent replacement for Hailie Deegan at AM Racing. Smaller teams like SS Greenlight and RSS Racing could potentially take Burton in.

Burton could even branch out to other manufacturers. If someone like Sam Mayer or Brandon Jones leaves, could he end up at JR Motorsports? What about a return to Joe Gibbs Racing?

The Truck Series could have some open seats as well. If Christian Eckes leaves, could Burton slot in at McAnally-Hilgemann Racing? What about replacing Corey Heim at TRICON Garage or maybe to an open seat at Spire Motorsports?

Burton has plenty of potential options, and they are seats that can compete for wins and Championships. That could be just the situation he needs to regain his confidence.
