What’s Happening?

Team Penske’s Austin Cindric is looking to make his Australian Supercars debut later this season, per a new report.

According to Andrew van Leeuwen of Speedcafe, Cindric could team up with Ford’s Tickford Racing for the Adelaide Grand Final in late November. This deal seems to be in the early stages, as fellow teams have been informed that the two-car team intends to enter a third car for the event, though Cindric, Penske, or Tickford have yet to confirm he will race at Adelaide.

This rumor follows a long line of rumors that Cup Series drivers could race at Adelaide. Still fresh on the minds of NASCAR fans are reported deals for Kyle Busch to race at the circuit in 2024 and Kyle Larson in 2025 that ultimately fell through.

The 2.001-mile street circuit would be great practice for racers in any of NASCAR’s three National Series, as the sport has confirmed there will be a new street circuit in San Diego for 2026. Unlike the street circuit in Chicago that attracted so many Supercars drivers, this track, on the streets of Naval Base Coronado, will feature all three NASCAR National Series.

If Cindric were to race with Tickford, he would be teammates with Cam Waters, who made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Sonoma with RFK Racing in 2024. Since that start, Waters has only made one other NASCAR start in the Truck Series race at Lime Rock Park in June, his third career race in trucks.

Of course, Waters is far from the first Supercars driver to hop in a stock car since 2020, with Shane van Gisbergen, Brodie Kostecki, Will Brown, and Jack Perkins all fresh on the minds of NASCAR fans. Brown is also rumored to be behind the wheel of Kaulig Racing’s No. 11 on Aug. 30 at Portland International Raceway alongside Perkins, who will race with Joe Gibbs Racing.

Cindric has a history with Supercars, having tested a car in 2017 before his time as a standout prospect in NASCAR. Though he has struggled on road courses since his 2022 full-time Cup Series debut, Cindric was once considered an ace in the Xfinity Series, with road courses accounting for five of his 13 career wins in the series.
