Iowa Speedway Facing “Uncertainty” as NASCAR’s 2026 Schedule Release Looms

With the impending release of NASCAR’s 2026 schedule, a new report suggests that Iowa Speedway is facing “uncertainty” in regards to its spot on the NASCAR Calendar.

Mexico out and Chicagoland in on the Fourth of July. San Diego and Sonoma back to back. New Hampshire out of the postseason. Darlington and Richmond earlier dates? A second off weekend? And a familiar start to the season.

With rumors that NASCAR could drop its 2026 schedule as soon as next week, it may be surprising to find out that potential changes for some key tracks remain up in the air. Per a new report from Kelly Crandall of RACER, Iowa Speedway is one of those tracks.

While there have been rumors of Iowa being an unknown for the 2026 schedule, removing the .875-mile oval from the calendar seemed like an unlikely move due to the track’s impressive attendance through its first two seasons on the NASCAR calendar. Nonetheless, Crandall reports that the track’s future “could go either way.”

It’s hard to imagine that the track would lose its date, which it gained in 2024 after NASCAR sold off significant portions of the now semi-demolished Auto Club Speedway’s property. However, with the state of the NASCAR Cup Series short track product, the track’s high attendance and location may not be enough to maintain a spot.

Of course, this is not a definitive yes or no, as such a decision is important not only to NASCAR’s midwestern market but also to the track’s future, as this would not be the first time it has lost races. From 2009 to 2019, Iowa hosted the Truck and Xfinity Series before losing those dates after the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In a report that NASCAR is considering moving the All-Star Race to Dover Motor Speedway, Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic was the first to report that the schedule could be released next week. Crandall’s report backs this claim up, meaning that NASCAR fans will probably not have to wait long for an answer about Iowa’s future.
