What’s Happening?

Cleetus McFarland’s debut in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with Richard Childress Racing team has led to quite a big debate in the NASCAR world, dragging the controversy over driver eligibility and entry standards back into the spotlight.

Garage area chatter may be running hot, but his fan base is not losing sleep over rulebooks or ladders. They want to see their YouTuber trade paint with names that have been around the block, and this weekend at Rockingham Speedway, McFarland, whose real name is Garrett Mitchell, takes the next step in his NASCAR career.

With the NASCAR Cup Series taking an off weekend for a breather, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series steps into center stage as the main draw on Saturday afternoon at “The Rock.” Last year, Sammy Smith got his foot in the door with a win after Jesse Love’s post-race disqualification.

For those looking to catch McFarland’s run from the very first lap of practice to the drop of the checkered flag, here is how the weekend stacks up at the 0.94-mile short track.
