Historic Racetrack Returning to the NASCAR Chase in 2027

What’s Happening?

In 2027, Richmond Raceway will return to NASCAR’s Chase for the first time since the 2021 season as part of a NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts and Cup Series doubleheader weekend.

  • As is tradition, the Cup Series race will be held on Saturday night, September 11. But unlike this season’s non-Chase race, the Cup Series will be joined by the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series as opposed to the Truck Series.   
  • The OAP Series was a long-time fixture of the track’s annual schedule, hosting two races annually for over 30 years before leaving for the 2025 season. Of course, with Richmond slimmed down to just one race weekend, this means the Truck Series has no races at the track in 2027.
  • With Richmond and New Hampshire Motor Speedway taking the place of Gateway and Bristol, the 2027 Cup Series Chase schedule is mostly fleshed out. As of press time, six of the ten races have been announced, leaving four weekends, including the season finale, unconfirmed.
  • Richmond is the latest track to announce its individual race dates for 2027. Earlier this season, the Daily Downforce started a tracker to keep up with the dates that were already announced. That story can be found via the link below.
